Why Do We Wear Onsies in Public?

one direction wearing onesiesLast time I have written about adult footed pajamas and their increasing popularity. This time, let’s take a look at one fashion trend that has been the runaway hit of the last year: onesies. If a decade ago someone told me that adults would be wearing all-in-ones in public, probably I would have laughed. Well, the onesie trend has hit our streets and we can expect it to get more and more popular. Even celebrities wear them. In public! Rihanna, One Direction, Kate Moss, Brad Pitt and Cheryl Cole are just some of the celebrities that have shown their sexy bodies in onesies. Who would have imagined that? Nobody. So, what is the secret of onesies? Imagined as an alternative to central heating, comfortable night wear, how come did they get out in the streets?

Surely, celebrities have helped onesies in their success, but that is not enough. It goes like this. We share our most intimate moments on social networks very often, pics of our meals, shopping bags, bedside stories. If we can post a photo of ourselves spending our spare time in comfortable clothes (and onesie certainly is more than comfortable), why not to wear it in our garden? After that, we go out to our local grocery market in one of these or even to take a walk down the river, lake, sea. And just when we start reconsidering whether it is appropriate to wear it in public or not, we see the pics of Cheryl Cole wearing onesie on her visit to, hard to believe, Paris! Even though I went to far in my onesie, further than I thought I could have, still I did not go abroad wearing it. But, to be honest, on my next flight I will wear my Primark onesie, because I cannot imagine anything more comfortable than that for traveling. Not to mention that when I’m wearing it, I have a feeling that something really warm hugs me. Yes, I do enjoy it. Maybe we feel like carefree babies again and that makes us feel better on a rainy or foggy day when we would avoid leaving our homes. But, don’t get me wrong! Still, I don’t think that wearing onesies in a business meeting is alright. But, who knows what tomorrow brings?
