Pewter jewellery is an amazing, elegant and unique form of jewellery. Pewter usually contains over 90% of tin and it does not contain lead. Consistency of pewter allows skilled jewellery makers to easily form jewellery pieces by hand. Hand made jewellery is unique and especially appreciated among people. Pewter jewellery can be either polished to be shiny and silver like, or it can be left to show the original colour which gives that piece of Jewellery the vintage look. Both options are interesting and popular, because either jewellery looks traditionally Celtic or it looks contemporary and trendy.
Pewter Jewellery has a long history, but over the years one thing has stayed the same: very high Tin content of good Pewter. Pure tin is too soft to be used for making products, and the other elements are added in order to make it perfect for manufacturing. Melting point of pewter is low so this is taken as advantage for making Jewellery with not so many devices and equipment in small workshops. Nowadays, Pewter is lead free and it is mixed with antimony and copper. Sometimes it is mixed with silver, too.
Versatility and beauty of pewter is undoubted, and that is why it is used for making stunning, trendy and regular jewellery. But, as every other Jewellery, it requires cleaning. New items are easy to be cleaned but it is recommended to clean them constantly in order to maintain their fabulous look. Being a metal alloy, polishing it does not take much time, surely less than polishing silver or other metals. It could be cleaned with hands just with mild soap and warm water. Another way is to make a paste of flour, vinegar and salt and to apply it on the jewellery pieces for 15 minutes then to rinse the jewellery with warm water and to dry it with soft cloth.
