Not everyone is happy and satisfied with the length and volume of his/her hair and we are all aware that hair contributes very much our over-all physical appearance. Nowadays it is possible to change hair completely very quickly in modern hair salons – by methods of adding commercial hair to person’s natural hair. These methods are called artificial hair integrations, or commonly hair extensions. People were always trying to cover and hide thinning or loss of hair in concentrated areas, but the first attempts were not so successful – people looked unrealistic. But, since then, time has passed and hair extension techniques have been improved and it is possible to make drastic hair changes with just one appointment – without looking unnatural.
What are the hair extensions made from? Usually human and synthetic fibers, as well as horse hair is used. Even though synthetic fibers are cheaper and available in almost any color, one should know that most of synthetic fibers cannot withstand curling, straightening and hot temperatures. China and India are the major suppliers of human hair, it can be found in many colors and grades. General hair extensions types are: Clip-in hair extensions, Bonding and sealing extensions, Feather hair extensions and Weaves. The quality, color and texture are characteristics by which different material types are distinguished. Hair quality is usually specified and there are Remy, Virgin and Double drawn hair. Remy hair is human hair with almost all the strands strictly organized with tips to one and the roots to opposite direction. Virgin hair means that the hair is unprocessed. Double drawn hair indicates that almost all the strands are of a certain length (the shorter strands in the bundle were removed twice – therefor it is called “double”). Textures vary from curly to straight and synthetic hair is available in wide range of curl patterns – European, Yaki, Silky straight, Deep wave, Romance wave and many many more.
