Not every man is born with the tall, buff physique that society labels as attractive. And while no one wants to be fat and plenty of men struggle to shed off the extra pounds, being skinny does not do much for anyone either.
So what do you do if your genes were just not that kind to you? Many men make huge fashion mistakes while trying to compensate for their lack of their body mass. Here are some sure ways to work your skinny frame to your advantage.
1. Wear clothes that fit
So many men fall into this trap. In an attempt to take the attention away from their frame, they wear clothing that is too large. It does not work though; the only thing you will succeed in doing is looking like a little boy who stole his father’s clothing!
On the other side, there are those who wear clothing that literally clings onto their body. This will only emphasize your skinniness, especially if your ribcage is being seen! Avoid elastic materials as much as you can.
Always buy clothes that are your size. Tailor-fitted clothes, especially for formal occasions will make you stand out, despite your physique.
2. Shoulder pads
You probably have narrow shoulders that you are not too proud of if you are skinny. Buying a jacket with small shoulder pads will help enhance the appearance of your shoulders, making you look (and feel) much better.
You have to be careful with this however. Shoulder pads that are too large will make you look like a real life Johnny Bravo!
3. Avoid large belts
It might be difficult to find a belt that will fit your tiny waist but do not give up. Finding a belt that fits is a worthwhile investment as nothing screams skinny like a belt that can almost go round your waist twice!
4. Layering
Use layering to your advantage while dressing. Not only is it quite convenient as you can shed off the layers as it gets hot and increase them if it is getting cooler, the layered look also works really well for the skinny person.
Pants
The rule about getting the right fit applies here as well. Avoid trousers that are too large, especially at the waist. This is because you will be forced to hold them up with a belt, and in the process, an unsightly bulge will be created every time you sit.
Stay as far away as you can from skinny jeans or tapered trousers as well. While the name might make it appear as if skinny jeans are made for the skinny frame, they will only succeed in making your legs look bone thin.
